The Hives - Tyrannosaurus Hives
(( For anyone still reading this blog, this will be something I do every now and then. Every so often I'll review a CD, and if you agree with me well that's great, post comments and the like as you wish. ))
The Garage Rock movement seems to be dying down slowly, but the Hives remain as strong as ever. The only problem was figuring out how to top their previous album, which became uber famous for it's rockin' single "Hate To Say I Told You So". The NEW album, Tyrannosaurus Hives, finds them copying their previous sound, except they manage to strip the sound down even FURTHER. This makes the first album sound like it was produced by a jam band.
The new album is STILL a force to be reckoned with. The Hives seem to experiment throughout the entire album, whether employing a Devo-Esque bassline ( Walk, Idiot, Walk ), invoking old 80s power ballads ( Diabolic Scheme ), or just letting the fast paced tempo speak for itself. ( Two Timing Touch and Broken Bones ) The entireity of the album, mostly structured around Howlin' Pelle Almqvist's roaring lyrics gives the CD a somewhat clunky, yet VERY entertaining sound. The album's only problem is it's length. Too short.
